Der Kater zieht die Pfoten ein,
Der Bär entsagt des Raubes Gier,
Der Hahn verpönt das Morgenschrein,
In Demut beugt sich Bull, der Stier.
Der Friedenspalme weicht das Schwert,
Das Schlachtfeld wird zum Weltidyll,
Die Wahrheit ihre Kraft bewährt.

The tomcat retracts its claws,
The bear renounces the greed of robbery,
The rooster gives up the mornings noises,
The bullock bows in humility, the bull.
The sword yields to the palm of peace,
The battlefield becomes a world idyll,
The truth retains its power. -
On the first day of April.
  Lange vor dem Fürstenmorde in Sarajevo war das Kriegsziel der Verbündeten unverückbar festgestellt. Russland tritt in den Besitz der Dardanellen, Kontantinopels, Galizien und Posens, Frankreich gewinnt Elsass-Lothringen und einen Teil der Rheinprovinzen, Italien erlöst Südtirol, Triest das Küstenland und Dalmatien. Serbien erhält Bosnien und die Herzogewina und den Banat, Rumänien Siebenbürgen und die Bukowina und Griechenland einen Teil Kleinasiens und Albaniens. England, interesselos wie immer, behält die Herrschaft über die Weltenmeere und den Welthandel. Das Programm ist historisch erhärtet. Das die Volker damit in den April geschickt wurden, haben sie mit ihren Führern auszufechten. Deutschland und Österreich nahmen den Aprilscherz furchtbar ernst. -  
  Long before the murder of the prince in Sarajevo the objectives of the war were irrevocably laid down. Russia takes possession of the Dardanelles, Constantinople, Galicia and Posen, France wins Alsace and Lorraine and parts of the Rhineland, Italy gains South Tyrol, Trieste with the coastal area and Dalmatia, Serbia obtains Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Banat, Rumania Transylvania and the Bukovina and Greek part of Asia Minor, and Albania. England, without interests as ever, continues to rule the world seas and world trade. This program has been historically hardened. As the people have been sent to the jest with this, they have to fight over it with their leaders. Germany and Austria took awfully serious this April joke.
